One of the things that I said we had to do when we found out we were moving to Kansas was get our pictures taken in the sunflower fields, it is the state flower after all. We were so glad that we met a great photographer that offered mini sessions, and because of the late summer we were actually there in time to see the sunflowers, I guess they usually turn much earlier and we would have missed them any other year.
They stretched for miles!
It was close to 100 that day, so everyone was sweaty, hot and kinda cranky….but we did manage to get a couple good shots.

Today Neal had the day off of school and the kids didn't, so I took full advantage and we had a great day. We were leaving base to do all our plans and happened upon this guy,
he was just crossing the road, taking his sweet old time!
I somehow talked Neal into take yoga with me at this great little studio downtown. It was a ton of fun, I forgot how much I loved yoga. I cannot wait to go back and enjoy a whole lot more classes.
Afterwards Neal and I went and had lunch at this cute little soda fountain shop. It was a great little treat to have a lunch date without the kids.
After all the morning fun with Neal I went and did my weekly volunteering in Paige's classroom. I am glad that her teacher is letting me come in every Friday afternoon and get all the papers ready for the kids to take home for the weekend. I will occasionaly sneak over to Austin's class too, but a lot of stuff for his class I will take home and do at night.
Austin is in the power reading program at school, to help him get more fluency and comprehension, and he is making great strides. It is wonderful to see him enjoying reading more and more instead of all the fighting about reading that we used to have.

The rain is wonderful, I just don't think that I will ever get sick of it. Especially when it brings such sweetness as this!
I just love wonderful moments like this! I wish it happened more often than it does.

Today was PAIR day on post, its when all the base activities and local businesses come, set up booths and all the students and families can find everything at once. Its great to have it all brought to you so you don't miss anything, we got lots of good information and the kids calendars will be filling up very soon!
While we were there we got to meet Dorothy and all her friends from the Wizard of Oz, we are in Kansas after all!
After that we had a surprise for the kids, we heard about this hot air balloon festival that was being held about 25 minutes away. So we got tickets and headed down. We didn't know what to expect, but it was a lot of fun.
We got there early and had a good chunk of time to kill, but they eventually started blowing up the balloons for the tethered rides.
And then eventually the rest of them started blowing up.
We were so close and it was fun to watch that many of them at once.
They eventually started flying one at a time
It is quite a sight to see!
Austin, and all of us for that matter, had a lot of fun watching it all unfold!
One day it would be fun go up in one.
Later in the evening they did a "balloon glow" we didn't know what to expect, but they blew up all the balloons and in the dark they just glowed!
It was really really neat to see :-)
Humpty Dumpty was one of my favorites of the balloon glow. We all had so much fun, if you can ever go see one of these I highly recommend it!

The kids have 2 days of school under their belt and since we haven't met most of the neighbors, it was great when someone organized a block party and we were able to meet everyone and have some fun and relax! It wasn't our CA neighborhood, but I think this one will work for a year :-)

Today was the first day of school and we have 2 crazy kids who are super excited to start, meet some new friends and enjoy their new school!
I kept getting crazy goofy for a smile….
a couple of silly goon heads!
And of course Daddy totally spoiled them with the usual first day of school donut….sugar them up for the first day :-)
All ready to take on the 2nd grade!
Watch out 4th grade, Paige is coming to conquer you!
Had to get one of all 3 school kids. Even though we have been here a month and Neal has been taking classes, they were the AF refresher classes, the "real" ones started today too!
I know its not an ocean view walk to school, but it is still a pretty good walk!

One of the best parts of moving around and living in different places is that we still get to see the MN Twins play baseball in person. We took full advantage of the Twins playing the KC Royals and drove down to spend the night at the ballpark!
Tickets are here, ready to go!
KC Royals stadium as we were driving there
Austin is just chilling out watching batting practice and waiting for Daddy to come back with his hotdog.
The view of the field from our seats, we were right down above the Twins dugout with a great view of everything!
Ready to cheer on the Twins
The game was great, it helped that the Twins WON!! Not only that, but Andrew Albers (the Twins pitcher), was pitching his first major league game and he did great! I forget the stats, but he won and he stayed in the game until the 9th inning.
We stuck around long enough to watch him do some post game interviews and then sign autographs. The kids and Neal of course ran down to get their hats signed.
Signing Austin's hat first
Then on to Paige's hat
It was fun to stick around and see him and get the autographs, but it did end up being a late night….and school starts in 2 days, so lets hope this doesn't make getting up early too hard!
They are getting quite the collection of autographs on their hats!
